Vitamins and Supplements at Goshorn Chiropractic

Vitamins and Supplements at Goshorn Chiropractic

According to the Center for Health and Statistics only 9% of American adults consume enough healthy foods to reach their RDI of nutrients. Researchers at John Hopkins found that sub-optimal nutrient intake is a wide spread problem in America. Such nutrients include but are not limited to: vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folic acid, magnesium, copper, selenium, zinc, and the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's).

Although the best way to obtain vitamins and nutrients is through dietary intake, we know for the majority of Americans this is not occurring. When we are not able to obtain nutrients from food then we need to supplement with vitamins. Vitamins that mimic nature as closely as possible is the best way for nutrients to be absorbed. This means nutrients are combined so there is a natural synergy between vitamins, co-factors, and micro-nutrients just as would naturally occur in food. But we know that over 90% of vitamin supplements are excreted without being utilized by the body. This translates to a lot of wasted money and frustrated consumers.

What exactly are vitamins? They are nutrients and organic matter that serve as the fuel for enzymes and co-enzymes in the body. Enzymes are essential for speeding up the chemical reactions that take place in our body and co-enzymes support enzyme reactions. Without proper nutrients, enzymes, and co-enzymes our body cannot properly handle the 1000's of metabolic processes that occur daily. Vitamins and minerals are vital in helping our body produce energy, grow, and are responsible for the reproduction and health of our cells. Certain nutritional supplements act as antioxidant free radical scavengers. Antioxidant vitamins and minerals have the power to counteract free radicals before they cause cellular damage.

You need to be careful when choosing a brand of vitamin. Here's why: Vitamins need to be in a form that is bio-available. Bio-availability is a gauge of how much a particular substance can be absorbed by our body. Those vitamins that are formulated with poor bio-availability means the nutrients will simply pass through our system un-absorbed, with no health benefit. Not all forms of vitamins and minerals are alike and some are better absorbed than others. There is a wide difference between cheaper synthetic vitamins and vitamins with more expensive ingredients. The formulation needs to be in the right balance, not just hastily formulated, or many ingredients can cancel each other out, or even cause harmful consequences.

Look for nutritional supplements that follow pharmaceutical good manufacturing compliance (GMC). This is the highest standard possible for nutritional supplements. Another thing to look for is a statement stating purity guaranteed. This means that the ingredients have been verified with a certificate of analysis to confirm potency.

At Goshorn Chiropractic and Wellness Center we strive to offer you the best nutritional supplements available anywhere. We take nutrition seriously because without good health what do you have.

We recommend only pharmaceutical grade nutraceuticals such as Metagenics, Standard Process, and Integrative Therapeutics products. We recommend these manufacturers  for the high quality standards they impose on all of their products.

Ask the doctor about which vitamins you should be taking at your next visit.

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I've had back issues ever since I had a seizure several years ago. I started seeing Dr. Hill and it has helped immensely. I have far less pain now and he taught me some stretches for when it does bother me. I usually have my 7 year old son with me and Dr. Hill is great at interacting with him and explaining how things work. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming."

  • An Apple a Day . . .

What is so good about an apple? Is it the color, ranging from ruby red to pale pink? Is it the crunch? The sweetness? Or is it, instead, a combination of all of these qualities, plus the natural goodness derived from the apple's secret ingredients — phytonutrients? If this were a multiple choice quiz, the answer would be "all of the above". Importantly, in addition to possessing numerous appealing physical qualities, apples contain an abundance of health-promoting biochemicals known as phytonutrients.1,2 These specific organic molecules are derived not only from apples but many other fresh fruits and vegetables, and help power the immune system, protect against cancer, maintain healthy eyes, and assist cells in clearing out metabolic waste products such as free radicals. ...
